FREDERICTON (GNB) – The government has launched an enhanced wildfire dashboard and Fire Watch website as part of its ongoing investments in wildfire preparedness and public safety.
“The dashboard, along with our Fire Watch website, were pivotal resources for New Brunswickers and our wildfire management partners during last year’s wildfires,” said Natural Resources Minister John Herron. “These tools empower residents with real-time updates and critical information to stay informed and prepared during wildfire season.”
The dashboard consolidates data from the wildfire management branch to provide timely, accurate and reliable updates as fires occur across the province. The updates are intended to keep people informed without causing unnecessary alarm.
Herron reminded New Brunswickers that wildfires are a natural occurrence every year, and the province’s wildfire response teams have the training and expertise to effectively manage them.
“New Brunswickers can rest assured that our wildfire fighters respond to hundreds of incidents every wildfire season,” said Herron. “While wildfires are a reality, not all result in the kind of challenges we faced last summer.”
The upgraded dashboard and website were developed based on feedback from internal staff, government partners and external stakeholders collected through surveys and engagement sessions. These improvements aim to make wildfire information more accessible and user-friendly.
Key updates include:
· Real-time information: Residents can access up-to-date details about wildfire incidents across the province.
· Centralized data: A single source of accurate and reliable information directly from the wildfire management branch.
New Brunswickers are encouraged to check daily burn conditions on the Fire Watch website or the new NB Wildfires Facebook page to stay informed. The government also urges residents to explore the FireSmartNB page to understand their personal role in reducing wildfire risks and contributing to community safety.
The updated wildfire dashboard and Fire Watch website are in keeping with the government’s commitment to wildfire preparedness.
